Joann de Zegher won the People’s Choice Award at the 2019 Early-Career Sustainable OM Workshop, where she presented her most recent working paper.  Her winning working paper, co-authored with Hamsa Bastani (Wharton), is entitled, “Do Policies with Limited Enforcement Reduce Harm? Evidence from Transshipment Bans.”

Dimitris Bertsimas has been named the 2016 IFORS Distinguished Lecturer by the International Federation of Operational Research Societies.  He delivered this lecture at the 28th European Conference on Operational Research, at the Poznan University of Technology in Poland, on July 4, 2016.

Dimitris Bertsimas has received the 2016 Harold Larnder Prize, an annual award recognizing an individual who has achieved international distinction in operational research, from the Canadian Operational Research Society (CORS). He delivered the Harold Larnder Memorial Lecture at the 58th Annual CORS Conference, at the Banff Centre in Canada, on May 30, 2016.

Dimitris Bertsimas’s teaching has been included in the "Class Central's Top 50 MOOCS of All Time” (2017 edition) list, based on thousands of reviews by Class Central users. MOOCs are Massive Open Online Courses, free to anyone with an internet connection. Class Central reports there are now over 8,000 MOOCs offered by around 750 universities worldwide. Bertsimas’s course 15.071x The Analytics Edge, delivered via edX, was one of four MIT courses  in the “Top 50 MOOCS of All Time” list. The award was announced last month in a Class Central blog post.

Doug Ready is a winner of the 2013 Thinkers50Award. The Thinkers50 list, published every two years, is a global ranking of individuals viewed as being among the most influential management thinkers in the world. The honor recognizes Ready’s many influential publications on talent management, leadership, and leading enterprise-wide change in Harvard Business Review and MIT Sloan Management Review over the past two decades.

Ed Schein is the recipient of the 2009 Distinguished Practitioner Scholar Award, an Academy of Management (AOM) Career Achievement Award. This award recognizes, over the course of a career, significant contributions in using practice-based learning to influence theory and/or research-based theory to influence the practice of management.

Edgar Schein is the recipient of the 2015 Beckhard Award for outstanding contribution to the field of Organization Development. This annual award is given by the International Organization Development Association (IODA). The award recognizes Schein’s lifetime achievement and “many years of distinguished, continuous contribution.”

Eric von Hippel was awarded the Innovation Luminary Award from the European Commission for his “excellent and groundbreaking work in…‘Democratizing Innovation.’” Earlier winners include Stephen Hawking, Richard Branson, and Bill Drayton. von Hippel also received the 2015 Innovative Management Partner (IMP) Excellence in Innovation Research Award from the University of Innsbruck School of Management, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to research in strategy and innovation.

Vivek Farias (Patrick J. McGovern (1959) Professor and Professor of Operations Management), along with several students in his research group and a team at Anheuser-Busch InBev, has received the 2022 Daniel H. Wagner Prize for Excellence in the Practice of Advanced Analytics and Operations Research from the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). This award recognizes the successful use of operations research, analytics, and innovative mathematics in practice.

Farias' winning paper, “Generalized Synthetic Control for TestOps at ABI: Models, Algorithms, and Infrastructure,” was co-authored with MIT students Tianyi Peng, Luis Costa, Patricio Foncea, and Jingyuan (Donna) Gan; and from Anheuser-Busch InBev, Ivo Rosa Montenegro, Ayush Garg, Dusan Popovic, and Kumarjit Pathak.

More information about their work that “results in millions in monthly revenue” with its “profound applications of analytics and O.R. to understand experimental power relative to alternatives using physical retail experiments and the platform, ‘TestOps’,” is in the prize announcement.

The award was presented in October during the INFORMS Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, IN. 

Vivek Farias and Eric So (Accounting) were each awarded the 2020 Jamieson Prize for Excellence in Teaching, established to honor educational innovation and excellence. The Jamieson Prize for Excellence in Teaching Award is the most prestigious teaching prize offered by the school. The award was established in 2006 and is awarded each year to two MIT Sloan faculty members, as well as two electrical engineering and computer science faculty members, for their contributions to educational excellence at MIT. The Jamieson faculty prize is selected by a review committee at MIT.
