Nemit Shroff and Michelle Hanlon have received the 2017 American Tax Association (ATA) Outstanding Manuscript Award. This annual award recognizes a significant contribution to the tax literature published during the three prior calendar years. The winning paper, co-authored with John R. Graham (Duke University Fuqua School of Business professor) and Terry Shevlin (University of California, Irvine Paul Merage School of Business professor), is entitled “Incentives for Tax Planning and Avoidance: Evidence from the Field.”

Jared Curhan received the "Best Theoretical Paper" award from the International Association for Conflict Management (IACM) at its 23rd Annual Conference held in Boston in late June. The winning paper, entitled "The other edge of the sword: Parallel and divergent effects on objective and subjective value in negotiation," is co-authored with Curhan's MIT Sloan doctoral student, Ashley Brown.

John Hauser and John D.C. Little were elected as inaugural Fellows of ISMS (the INFORMS Society of Marketing Science) at the 30th Annual Marketing Science Conference in Vancouver, BC. The 10 Fellows Awards were given in recognition of significant, long-term contributions in research, education, and service to the Society of Marketing Science's efforts to improve the understanding and practice of marketing.

Paul Osterman has been awarded a Visiting Scholar position at the Russell Sage Foundation in 2014-15. The Russell Sage Foundation was established in 1907 for "the improvement of social and living conditions in the United States." The Foundation now dedicates itself exclusively to strengthening the methods, data, and theoretical core of the social sciences as a means of diagnosing social problems and improving social policies. The Russell Sage Foundation invites Visiting Scholars to its New York headquarters to investigate topics in social and behavioral sciences; this work constitutes an important part of the Foundation's ongoing effort to analyze the shifting nature of social and economic life in the United States.

Sinan Aral has won the Network Science Best Paper Award, sponsored by the Indiana University Network Science Institute. This first-ever award was chosen by the editors from all papers published in the first four volumes of the journal, from 2013 to 2016. Aral’s winning paper, co-authored with Lev Muchnik (Hebrew University of Jerusalem School of Business Administration senior lecturer) and Arun Sundararajan (New York University Stern School of Business professor), is entitled “Engineering Social Contagions: Optimal Network Seeding in the Presence of Homophily.”

Nikolaos Trichakis and co-authors won the 2021 Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (M&SOM) Interface of Finance, Operations, and Risk Management Best Paper Award (First Prize) for the paper "On the Financing Benefits of Supply Chain Transparency and Blockchain Adoption." Published in Management Science, the paper's co-authors were Jiri Chod (University of Rochester), Gerry Tsoukalas (University of Pennsylvania & Boston University), Henry Aspegren (MIT), and Mark Weber (IBM Research; MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab).

Ezra Zuckerman Sivan was named a winner of the 2019 Cooley-Mead Prize for best article, Social Psychology section of the American Sociological Association, for his paper “The Authentic Appeal of the Lying Demagogue: Proclaiming the Deeper Truth about Political Illegitimacy." The paper's co-authors are Oliver Hahl and Minjae Kim.

Adrien Verdelhan has received the 2017 AQR Insight Award First Prize, sponsored by AQR Capital Management. This award recognizes exceptional unpublished academic papers that provide the most significant original approaches to investment issues, offering practical insights for taxable investor or tax-exempt institutional portfolios. The winners are invited to present their new research at AQR. Verdelhan’s winning paper, co-authored with Wenxin Du (Federal Reserve Board) and Alexander Tepper (Columbia University), is entitled "Deviations from Covered Interest Rate Parity.”

Michelle Hanlon was designated as a 2020 Presidential Scholar by the president of the American Accounting Association (AAA). Hanlon delivered a commissioned Presidential Research Lecture as a plenary speaker at the 2020 Virtual Annual Meeting of the AAA in August. The Accounting Review will publish her talk, which was entitled "The Possible Weakening of Financial Accounting from Tax Reforms,” as part of the Presidential Research Lecture series, by request of the AAA Board of Directors.

Andrew Sutherland has received the FARS Best Dissertation Award 2016 from the Financial Accounting and Reporting Section (FARS) of the American Accounting Association (AAA). Andrew’s winning dissertation is entitled “The Economic Consequences of Borrower Information Sharing: Relationship Dynamics and Investment.”
