Katherine Kellogg is the recipient of the first annual Best Published Paper Award from the Organization and Management Theory (OMT) division of the Academy of Management. Kate's winning paper, "Operating Room: Relational Spaces and Microinstitutional Change in Surgery," appeared in the November 2009 issue of the American Journal of Sociology.

Tom Kochan has been awarded a Doctor of Science in Economics honorary degree by the University of Sydney. This highest form of honor and recognition bestowed by the institution is given in recognition of Tom's "distinguished achievements throughout [his] professional life".

Erik Brynjolfsson, postdoctoral associate Frank MacCrory, and research scientist George Westerman, as well as co-author Yousef Alhammadi of the Masdar Institute in Abu Dhabi, have won the 2014 International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) Award for Best Conference Paper. Their winning paper is entitled, “Racing With and Against the Machine: Changes in Occupational Skill Composition in an Era of Rapid Technological Advance.”

Wanda Orlikowski and JoAnne Yates won the 2014 Best Information Systems Publications Award given by the Association for Information Systems (AIS). The award recognizes the breadth of high-quality work that is being published in the information systems discipline across a range of journals. The winning paper (co-authored with their former doctoral student, Melissa Mazmanian, now at UC Irvine) is entitled “The Autonomy Paradox: The Implications of Mobile Email Devices for Knowledge Professionals.”

Jean-Noël Barrot  has received a 2015 Kauffman Junior Faculty Fellowship in Entrepreneurship Research (KJFF) from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. The grant award recognizes the winners for beginning to establish a record of scholarship and exhibiting the potential to make significant contributions to the body of research in the field of entrepreneurship.

Tom Kochan has received the prestigious 2015 Aspen Institute Faculty Pioneer “Lifetime Achievement” Award, recognizing his contributions as an educator at the vanguard of teaching and scholarship about “business practices that contribute to an economy that works for all.”

Juan Pablo Vielma has won first place in the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences 2015 Junior Faculty Interest Group Paper Competition. His winning paper is entitled “Embedding Formulations and Complexity for Unions of Polyhedra.”

Juan Pablo Vielma was awarded the 2015 Best Publication Award in Natural Resources from the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences Section on Energy, Natural Resources, and the Environment for “Imposing Connectivity Constraints in Forest Planning Models,” co-authored with Rodolfo Carvajal (Georgia Tech and Univ. Adolfo Ibáñez, Chile), Miguel Constantino (Univ. de Lisboa, Portugal), Marcos Goycoolea (Univ. Adolfo Ibáñez, Chile), and Andres Weintraub (Univ. de Chile and Instituto Milenio Sistemas Complejos de Ingeniería, Chile).

Erik Brynjolfsson and Andy McAfee have won the German Business Book Award for the best business book in German in 2015 for The Second Machine Age. The book was cited as “the standard reference for a new industrial world in which machines talk to machines, robots pass objects using sensor skin on their gripper arm, and systems learn by themselves.”

Tom Kochan has received the 2016 LERA (Labor and Employment Relations Association) Lifetime Achievement Award,recognizing Tom’s many years of outstanding contributions to the field of Industrial Relations and Human Resources. The award recipient is selected by the LERA President, who said of Kochan, “He is a brilliant strategist and a treasure in our world of labor and employment relations which includes conflict resolution in the community at large.”
